This photograph was taken on April 15, 1845, shortly before Jackson passed away at his home, The Hermitage, near Nashville, Tennessee on June 8, 1845. This is one of four known Jackson daguerreotypes in existence. Jackson served as the 7th president of the United States from March 4, 1829 to March 4, 1837. Prior to his election, he also served in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate for the state of Tennessee, and was a major general during the War of 1812.
