    This photograph shows desserts for a State Dinner honoring Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl of the Federal Republic of Germany laid out on a table in the Ground Floor Corridor of the White House. The dinner was hosted by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton on February 9, 1995. For the main dessert, White House Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier took inspiration from Germany's tradition of elaborate molds and made molded hazelnut ice cream filled with coffee rum mousse and crunchy meringue. Each molded ice cream was decorated with nougat triangles and red polka-dotted meringue mushrooms. Accompanying the main dessert were petit four trays filled with chocolate almond drops, Parisian macarons, and butter cookies dipped in chocolate.
