    In this photograph, White House Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier cuts a cake with, likely, White House Curator Clement E. Conger in the Offices of the White House Curator. Conger was White House curator from 1970 to May 2, 1986. In the drawer of the chocolate cabinet decoration is a sign that says "Best Wishes to Mr. Conger." Conger was White House curator from 1970 to 1986. This photograph is part of a personal collection belonging to former White House Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier. Chef Mesnier created elaborate desserts for the White House from 1980 to 2004.

    In this photograph, taken by Jack E. Kightlinger on February 5, 1971, First Lady Pat Nixon discusses art objects with White House Curator Clement E. Conger. The White House Office of the Curator was created by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961, to ensure that the historic art and furnishings of the White House were preserved and managed according to museum standards. Mrs. Nixon frequently consulted with Conger as she worked on refurbishment and renovation projects for the White House and acquired artwork for the White House Collection. Mrs. Nixon added over 600 items to the White House Collection, and refurbished nine rooms, including the Red Room, in addition to renovating the Map and the China Rooms.

    This photograph is of author Margaret Brown Klapthor presenting a copy of the first edition of "Official White House China" to First Lady Betty Ford in the China Room in 1974. Brown Klapthor worked as a curator at the Smithsonian and was a first ladies scholar, notably working on "The First Ladies" exhibit at the National Museum of American History. Clement E. Conger, White House Curator, is at the far left.
