This photograph was taken by Cecil Stoughton on December 29, 1962. The Brigade was comprised of Cuban exiles who participated in the Bay of Pigs invasion of April 1961.

    This photograph is of President Harry S. Truman standing with the Marine Guard during a trip to the Little White House in Key West, Florida, taken on November 15, 1947. Among the Marines pictured is Private First Class Michael Hassett, Captain Robert L. Dennison's orderly. As vice president, Truman became president when President Franklin D. Roosevelt died during his fourth term in office in 1945. He was elected president in his own right during the 1948 election, serving from January 20, 1949 to January 20, 1953. During his second term, Truman was the target of an assassination attempt while living in Blair House during a major White House renovation. He served in the Senate prior to his years in the White House.

Brooker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York city on the morning of September 11, 2001. The president was informed by his chief of staff Andy Card of the second strike on the towers while reading to children at the school. After delivering brief remarks at the school, Bush boarded Air Force One for his own protection, accompanied by roughly 65 advisors, security agents, and staff members. For the next several hours, President Bush worked from his office aboard Air Force One, where he monitored the crisis using the secure phone lines and televisions installed in the aircraft.

    This landscape of a Florida sunrise by Martin Johnson Heade was completed around 1890-1900. The landscape captures the rising sun over a river or lake with two large, prominent palm trees in the foreground. Heade was an American artist who moved from portrait painting to landscapes during his career, including a number of marine paintings made in Florida. He has a total of three paintings in the White House Collection.

The family stands outside the private chapel at the residence of Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., the president's father, in Palm Beach, Florida. To escape the bitter cold of winters in Washington, D.C., President Kennedy would travel to his family's Mediterranean-style estate in Palm Beach.

Advances in communications technology and travel enabled Truman to winter in Key West during his presidency. He spent a total of 175 days over 11 visits to the island. The waterfront house he used was formerly the first officer's quarters on the naval station submarine base.
